Tips on Buying and Selling Daily Deals

5 Tips to Stay Safe Buying Past Daily Deal Coupons

The saying goes “if it looks too good to be true, it probably is” is good advice. But when you are looking to buy a past daily deal, well most daily deals look too good to be true anyway because they will often be 50% of the retail price.

That means, knowing how to protect yourself when buying a past daily deal coupon or voucher is very important. Here our the redealize tips for buying past daily deal vouchers and coupons. These tips can also be helpful when buying new deals too – especially if you’re buying from a daily deal site that you are unfamiliar with. Shop smart!

  1. Know what you are buying. Whenever you are going to buy a past daily deal, ask the seller who the original deal vendor was – then check that original site. For example, if it’s a unwanted Groupon NYC voucher, check the Groupon.com to see when they had that deals. You can read what the seller has written or said, but by checking the original offer you can be sure to know exactly what you are buying.
  2. Now read the fine print! Sounds pretty obvious, but it’s easy to be caught up in the emotion of a great deal that you miss an important condition. e.g. only can be used during a weekday, or limited to 1 per booking. You don’t want to end up buying a coupon your yourself will then be reselling just because you were in too much of a rush to read the fine print.
  3. Check the ad and ask the seller – why are you selling? peoples circumstances can an do change. If the ad doesn’t say why the coupon is now for sale (moving, will not get a chance to use, unwanted gift) then ask. It doesn’t hurt to ask. And who knows, the reason may be for the same reason you may not be able to use the coupon e.g. store now booked out, earliest available session is 3 months from now.
  4. Ring the retailer. If you have your heart set on using the daily deal voucher or coupon on a certain date, before you buy it take the time to ring up and ask the store what the availability is like for redeeming the voucher or coupon before you buy. Sometimes deals are restricted to certain days of the week, times of day, may be booked out for a few months, etc. There’s no point picking lessons to learn a new language before you travel to Europe, only to find out the first available class will be 6 months after you get back.
  5. Pay using PayPal. At redealize we love PayPal for making online payments. Paying via PayPal makes great sense, because PayPal have an excellent policy for trust, safety and refunds. This is because dispute resolution is built into the payment process. Never ever pay by cash, bank transfer or western union.
  6. Check the voucher ID. Once you complete your purchase, check the daily deal coupon ID immediately. All you need to do is call the store where you want to redeem the past daily deal and give them the coupon number over the phone. Why call the store? Well if you want to use it straight away, best to book it in now or you might find yourself wasting the coupon! If there are any problems with the store, you can also called the original deal vendor to get them to check. And of course, if there is a problem – then go back to step #3 and report the dispute to PayPal and redealize.
  7. Buy through a unwanted daily deal marketplace: The last tip is you are better of buying through a daily deal marketplace, sites like redealize.comThese sites specialize in helping you buy and sell past daily daily deals.
